Chrysanthemum Print by Kerrie Knuckey Art
So many cultures across the world throughout history attribute special meaning to plants and flowers. The many varieties of Chrysanthemum which range from incredibly showy to simple but joyful flowers, is well known across many regions but with quite varied symbolism.
In Europe Chrysanthemums (especially white) are representative of mourning, loss, and sympathy. In Japan and China, they’re associated with Emperors, nobility and longevity.
In Australia we celebrate the Chrysanthemum as one of our official flowers for Mother’s Day. Chrysanthemums, or ‘Mums’ for short represent love and friendship. They symbolise an honest, loyal and trusting love. These attributes combined with their association with devotion, joy and happiness makes it a perfect match for Mother’s Day or a thoughtful reflection of devoted romantic or platonic love.
